Melatonin Testing

Melatonin is the primary hormone (and also functions as a neurotransmitter) associated with sleep patterns. A disruption in melatonin levels can manifest in a variety of sleep concerns including difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep and chronic insomnia.

Monitoring melatonin levels is important not only for sleep disturbances, but also for developing a comprehensive treatment approach. Proven to have powerful antioxidant properties, melatonin is associated with weight management, cancer risk, immune function, and stress. Proper supplementation is best determined by reviewing test results in comparison with hormone, adrenal and neurotransmitter levels, all available from Labrix.

Melatonin sample collection is easy. Patients will collect the morning (AM) sample, 30 minutes after waking up. The second collection should be right before dinner (Evening sample), and the third and final collection will be right before bedtime (PM). Your patients will use the same collection tubes currently used for cortisol and hormones, keeping Labrix saliva kits and specimen collection very convenient and easy.

It’s simple to order melatonin testing for your patients. Select the Melatonin profile on any Hormone requisition form. Or, if you only want to order one or two Melatonin collections, simply select those individual boxes on the requisition form (Melatonin AM, Melatonin Eve or Melatonin PM.) If these options are missing on your forms, write them in, and/or call Labrix Customer Service at 877-656-9596 to order new kits and requisition forms.
